2018 Art At the Arnold Recap

A mixed media portrait of body painted model won first place in the Ninth Annual Art at the Arnold competition at the Arnold Sports Festival. Artists portrayed athletes and sports action the first weekend in March at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The first place winner was Kristy Dubinsky of Irwin, PA. Other winners were: 2nd place, Barb Kostohryz of Denver, CO who did a pastel painting of youth martial arts competitors and 3rd place, Tim Bachman of Hilliard, OH with a pastel painting of the body painted model.

Honorable mentions went to Rhonda Bartoe, Columbus, OH with a oil painting of pole fitness athlete and Nora Sallows, Wauseon, OH with a oil painting of ballroom dancers. The Quick Draw competition winner was Fran Mangino of Venice, FL.

The judges for the 2018 Art At The Arnold competition were Blick Art Materials Columbus Short North manager, Chantal Stone and regional manager, Steve Rook.

The three-day competition consisted of a half day of figure drawing and painting of athlete models including Bikini, Pole Fitness and Body Painted models. In the afternoon the artists sketched and gathered reference material throughout the Arnold Sports Festival. The second day artists did studio work using material gathered the day before. The final day artists selected one piece to submit for judging and an art show followed the judges presentation.
